Maddly Mendy Sylva is a flautist, singer, songwriter, and performer whose eclectic practice moves fluidly across genres, including jazz, afrobeat, house, and West African music. Trained initially in classical flute at the conservatory in Saint-Denis, her early engagement with jazz and improvisation shaped a practice grounded in experimentation, collaboration, and sonic exploration.
Her work integrates voice and flute, drawing on her background as an instrumentalist to develop a vocal practice that is both expressive and embodied. Through choral and a cappella performance, she approaches the voice as an instrument capable of generating emotional and collective resonance. She has collaborated with artists across diverse musical contexts, including Camille, with whom she toured internationally and continues to develop immersive performance projects such as Lalà , where audiences participate through collective singing and movement.
Alongside her collaborative work, Sylva develops her own musical project, Maddly, through which she composes and performs original work that reflects her interdisciplinary and transnational influences. She also holds academic training in sociology, ethnomusicology, and cultural management, and has worked extensively in event production and tour management, collaborating with artists including Salif Keïta, Tony Allen, The Last Poets, and Yael Naïm.
